Safe Waste Disposal at Tox Away Day 2025
Annually, on the first Saturday of October, Madison County hosts Tox Away Day. Residents bring household hazardous waste for safe disposal. Items collected include batteries, paints, chemicals, and other materials that should never go in the trash.
This free event is proudly presented by the Madison County Fiscal Court, in collaboration with the Energy and Environment Cabinet’s Division of Waste Management and the Kentucky Pride Fund.
Why Proper Disposal Matters
Throwing hazardous waste in the trash or pouring it down drains can harm the environment. It can pollute soil, rivers, groundwater, and even the air we breathe. This pollution affects wildlife and people. By disposing of these items safely, the community stays cleaner, safer, and healthier.

Event Highlights
Residents lined up throughout the day to drop off items. In total, 359 households participated this year, helping to safely clear dangerous materials from their homes. The event ran smoothly, and we thank everyone who joined and made the day a success.
