The Madison County Road Department maintains over 500 miles of County Road ways and maintains all aspects of County Fleet Operations from passenger vehicles, dump trucks, mowers and even emergency service vehicles.

Solid Waste Management is the division of the Road Department and is responsible for operation of the environmental regulations associated with proper disposal of waste including trash disposal, large item pick up program, dead animal removal program, loan-a-dumpster, onsite recycling, composting, household hazardous waste collection, and environmental controls to safeguard the community. 

Service Requests

Madison County Fiscal Court offers a Large Item Pickup to residents who live in Madison County. This excludes residents who live inside the city limits of Richmond or Berea. Madison County Solid Waste picks up large items that your trash hauler will not take. Please use the online form below or call the Madison County Solid Waste to request your pickup. Items are required to be put out on the curb/roadside of your residence the night before your scheduled pickup date. Madison County Solid Waste does NOT pickup tree limbs, brush or landscaping debris.

THIS SERVICE IS NOT AVAILABLE FOR COMMERCIAL BUSINESSES OR LANDLORDS.

Common items we pickup are: 

  • mattresses (Must be wrapped in plastic and taped firmly)
  • box springs (Must be wrapped in plastic and taped firmly)
  • couches, recliners, kitchen tables, furniture,
  • hot tubs (cut up in pieces),
  • hot water heaters
  • basketball goals, refrigerators, deep freezers,
  • stoves, washers and dryers, dishwashers,
  • rolls of carpet up to 3’ long, grills, lawn furniture, large children’s toys, and swing sets.

Once your request is received someone from our office will contact you to schedule a pickup date and time.

Removal of dead livestock is a water quality and public health issue, proper disposal is necessary for the overall environmental health and safety of the public. Madison County Fiscal Court provides FREE OF CHARGE dead livestock carcass removal for livestock producers in Madison County.

Types of Animals 

  • Cattle, Horses, Swine, Alpaca, Goats, Sheep

Producers desiring this service should request the service by the online form to the right or by calling 859-624-4709 between the hours 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday thru Friday. Request received after 09:30 am will be scheduled for the next business day. There will be no dead livestock picked up on weekends or County holidays.

Animal Removal Qualifications

To qualify for pickup, callers must ensure:

  • Animals are deceased – no animal will be euthanized by Madison County employees;
  • Request for pickup must be within 48 hours of death;
  • Animals shall be placed on a hard surface such as gravel, blacktop, or concrete
  • Animals shall be placed at the front of the property, immediately adjacent to a public road or easily accessible from a hard surface on the producers property
  • Property must be open and accessible for Madison County staff.  Staff is not authorized to go through any unopened gates or remove animals from where living animals are contained.
  • It is the owner’s responsibility to position the animal for accessible pick-up.

Madison County is not responsible for:

  • Damages on the property the producer owns where livestock are requested to be removed
  • Picking up small animals
  • Large animals on the roadway

Madison County residents (Excluding Citizens of Richmond or Berea) can recycle Electronics, E-Waste, and Scrap Metal at 325 N. Madison Avenue.
This service is available Monday – Friday, 8 am – 4 pm.

You MUST check in with the Road Department Office before unloading items into any of the disposal containers.

Madison County Residents (Excluding Citizens of Richmond or Berea) can bring the following items to our location:

Mattresses, box springs, couches, recliners, kitchen tables, furniture, hot water heaters, hot tubs (cut up in pieces), basketball goals, refrigerators, deep freezers, stoves, washers and dryers, dishwashers, rolls of carpet up to 3’ long,  grills, lawn furniture, large children toys, and swing sets.

We do NOT accept the following:

Landscaping debris (trees, brush, etc.), Household trash, Paint, Oil, Batteries, Chemicals, Pesticides, and Household hazardous waste.

THIS SERVICE IS NOT AVAILABLE FOR COMMERCIAL BUSINESSES OR LANDLORDS.

Madison County Fiscal Court offers a dumpster for the disposal of waste or junk that you may have in your garage, basement, or storage building. Household garbage, household hazardous materials; construction demolition debris, and tires are not permitted to be disposed of with this program. The dumpster is 20 yard capacity and measures approximately 4 feet tall 8 feet wide and 22 feet long.

The Loan-A-Dumpster program is first come first serve. Please call (859) 624-4709 to reserve this service. We accept 5 requests weekly, 3 on Mondays and 2 on Thursdays. Residents may request this service twice annually.

Loan-A-Dumpster Program Rules

1. Do not load items above the top of the dumpster.

2. Do not load any of the following items below:

  • Household Garbage
  • Oil or Latex Paint
  • Tires
  • Demolition or Construction Materials
  • Trees and Brush

Garbage Service

Madison County does not have mandatory garbage pickup for residents who live in the county. The incorporated areas of Richmond and Berea each have their own regulations pertaining to garbage collection within their city limits with a Franchise Hauler. Please visit their websites for information about city garbage collection.
