Shelter Fees

The fee structure at the Madison County Animal Shelter, established by Ordinance 2025-005, outlines costs related to adoption, reclaiming lost pets, administering vaccines, and any applicable fines or additional services. These fees support the care, safety, and well-being of animals in our shelter. A detailed list of fees is available below.

Reclaiming & Impound Fees

Fees for reclaiming a lost pet increase with each prior offense and help cover the cost of care and housing. In addition to these fees, charges for vaccines given to your pet will also appear on your bill. For more details, please visit our Stray Animal information page.

Surrendering a Pet

A one-time processing fee is required when surrendering a pet.

 Pet Microchipping/Licensing

Effective July 1, 2025, all pets (dogs and cats) in Madison County must be microchipped or licensed annually for $25.00, per Ordinance 2025-005. Microchipping provides permanent identification and does not require renewal. The shelter offers this service for $25.00, and all animals leaving the shelter are already microchipped. Failure to comply will result in a $50.00 fine.

Charged to commercial animal facilities as outlined in Ordinance 2025-005.
