Madison County Animal Shelter accepts owner surrender dogs and cats by appointment only. Appointments are scheduled on an as space allows basis. What does this mean? When the shelter is at capacity and kennel space is limited we will not schedule owner surrender appointments until space becomes readily available. Shelter staff are happy to assist with helping you find other rescue resources and we highly encourage responsible rehoming of your pet if space is unavailable.
Please call the shelter during regular business hours to discuss surrendering a pet and we will be happy to help whether that be scheduling an appointment or offering other resources locally to help in rehoming an animal. Please note that Madison County Animal Shelter does not intake community, or stray cats and cat surrenders must be owner surrendered, friendly, indoor and litterbox trained cats.
When surrendering an animal there are applicable fees which are as follows:
- Surrendering an unaltered pet – $20
- Surrendering an altered (spayed/neutered) pet – $10
When surrendering multiple there is and additional $5 for every animal after the first one
